Book Review: The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lewis Howes, he is a former professional football player, and the founder and host of the highly popular School of Greatness Podcast.

I had the pleasure of interviewing him on the Superhuman Entrepreneur podcast (click here to listen), where we discussed his background and approach to entrepreneurship.

Lewis recently released a book titled The School of Greatness, and to put it simply, I loved it.

The School of Greatness reads like a mini Tony Robbins seminar, but it’s a fraction of the cost. What I really loved about this book is that in addition to a lot of great high concept ideas, The School of Greatness gives you tangible action steps that you can use start changing your life.

This is one of the best books I’ve read that really helps you get yourself focused on what you need to do to transform your life - all for about $20.

The School of Greatness: Chapter Breakdown

Chapter 1 Vision: Everyone needs to create a vision. Lewis includes an exercise that I highly recommend - write down your perfect day and perfect week. This is an extremely powerful tool that starts you on a path to living a great lifestyle while you’re accomplishing all your goals.

Chapter 2 Adversity to Advantage: Shows you how to embrace adversity in life and take control of any challenge by asking, “What is the meaning that I choose to give this situation?”

Chapter 3 Cultivate a Champion Mindset: Taking techniques used by professional athletes, this chapter highlights the importance of visualizing progress and visualizing success.

Chapter 4 Developing Hustle: Expands on the idea that talent is not enough - you also need to have a “do it” mentality and disciplined perspective on life.

Chapter 5 Mastering Your Body: This is the only chapter I had a hard time with because it overlaps with my field of expertise. I thought it was a little too general.

Chapter 6 Practicing Positive Habits: How to cultivate and establish good habits.

Chapter 7 Building a Winning Team: Illustrates the importance of developing and fostering a powerful peer group, as well as finding mentors.

Chapter 8 Be of Service to Others: An incredibly powerful chapter with the message, “if you help others get what they want, you will eventually get what you want.”
